Personal Development Plans and Quarterly goals are usually not as focused on you as they are on the company’s goals. Don’t get it wrong though, it is your responsibility to own your career and manage yourself. I show you how.
This guide will give you a thorough view of how to get to and succeed in 9 different design career stages from being a student, all the way to VP — including freelancing and working remotely.
You're facing some challenges. Or you’re doing good but getting bored and want to level up. You’re an overachiever. We help you assess where you’re at and how to get to the next level.
You've been on the same company for quite some time, or perhaps you think you're being undervalued. You want to know where you stand at the moment and what is your market value.
Whether you're on your first career or doing a career change, you're currently studying design and getting to get into the design industry.
You've just started working as a designer and worked only in a few projects. Everything seems new and you have a lot of questions. What's right and what's not?
You've been in this for a while, you know what you're doing, but you don't feel yet like you're as far as you can be. What can you do to be a better designer?
You tackle design projects with ease and are comfortable showing your way of working to others. You might be looking to become a principal or manager.
You're recognized in your organization as a design authority. People ask you for your opinion on projects, and you are able to push for changes such as what tool to use.
You don't push pixels that much anymore. Instead, you manage resources, align teams, advocate for design, and are tasked with many design Ops responsibilities.
The team looks up to you. You're hands-off from the pixels. Instead, you hold 1-1s and are involved in high level strategic conversations at your organizations.
You work for multiple clients. You don't deal with politics that much, but you have new challenges like doing accounting, or push difficult clients to get paid.
In any level, you're location independent, a digital nomad. Doing calls on your pajamas is amazing, but this new environment comes with its own set of challenges.
Sara is an amazing designer, teacher, and listener, and I am extremely fortunate to have had her as my mentor. I cannot recommend her enough based on her vast experience in design, her friendly and positive attitude, and her amazing ability to assess and tackle any situation as they came.
Sara is an excellent mentor. She's incredibly challenging, friendly, knowledgeable, and constantly engaging. Her enthusiastic personality is addictive. Sara manages a large group of students but I never felt pushed to the side. I'm very grateful for being paired with her.
Sara was beyond encouraging. Her constructive criticism is on point, with a huge emphasis on constructive - she genuinely wants to see her mentees grow. On a more personal level, her positivity is contagious - she's smart, driven, enthusiastic, and extraordinarily easy to get along with.
I had a great experience having Sara as my mentor. Sara was professional, thorough, and her feedback was always very welcomed because her attitude was positive and encouraging. I’m very grateful to have been mentored by Sara and would strongly recommend her.
My learning experience was most definitely shaped by Sara's brilliant expertise and her support. Whenever I faced challenges, Sara would draw from her own industry experiences to provide valuable insights and tips but still ultimately empowered me to be confident in my design decisions.
She is highly professional as a designer and as a mentor as well. Every time we had a session, she provided practical tips and encouraged me to do at least a bit more than the task required. I am so grateful for the time I had her as a mentor.
